If you want top  of the line, eater, go for the new i7's.

Currently I'm running

Intel Core 2 E8400 @3.2GHz, 1067MHz FSB
Intel DG33FB mobo (avoid these, they suck ass)
nVidia 8800GTS
Creative labs X-Fi
24" LG display at 1680x1050x32
4 gigs of DDR2

I dualboot winxp pro and Gentoo Linux.  In linux, tron runs at 1300+ frames per second.  In xp pro, I get a measly 60 ish.  No lie.  I think my mobo is faulty.

60ish?  As in... it never exceeds 60?  Stays right below it?  If so...  Sounds like you have V-Sync enabled.
